Fire TV

IPTV on a Firestick, set up in about ten minutes

A Firestick turns any TV with an HDMI port into an IPTV screen. It is small, cheap, and the remote is simple enough that anyone in the house can use it. Here is how setup works and what to check first.

What you need

  • A Firestick or Fire TV that runs Fire OS, plugged into an HDMI port and your WiFi
  • An Amazon account on the stick (any free account works)
  • Around 15 Mbps of broadband per stream for HD, 25 Mbps for 4K
  • The login details we send on WhatsApp after your trial request

Setup, step by step

  1. 01

    Check the stick is online

    From the home screen open Settings, then Network. Make sure it shows your WiFi name and a strong signal. Update the stick first under Settings, My Fire TV, About, Check for Updates.

    Install Downloader

    Open Find, then Search, type Downloader and install the app with the orange icon. It is free and safe from the Amazon Appstore.

  3. 03

    Allow installs for Downloader only

    Go to Settings, My Fire TV, Developer Options, then Install Unknown Apps and switch Downloader ON. On newer Fire OS versions the stick asks for this the first time you open Downloader.

    Get your player app

    Either search your Appstore for a player such as TiviMate, or open Downloader and type the download link we send on WhatsApp. Only use links from us or the app's official site.

  5. 05

    Install and open the player

    Press Install, then Open. Accept the permission prompts. The player only needs network access.

  6. 06

    Enter your login

    Choose Login with Xtream Codes API, then type the name, username, password and server address from our WhatsApp message. If we sent an M3U link, choose Add Playlist and paste it. Copy and paste if you can.

  7. 07

    Let the list and guide load

    The first load takes one to three minutes. Do not close the app. When channels appear, open the guide and check that times match UK time.

  8. 08

    Tidy up

    Mark your favourite channels, then go back to Developer Options and switch Install Unknown Apps for Downloader OFF again.

Tips that save time

  • Use the 5GHz WiFi band if the stick is in the same room as the router. It is faster and less crowded.
  • If the picture freezes at busy times, plug in the Amazon Ethernet adapter. A cable removes WiFi from the equation.
  • Some newer Fire TV models run Amazon's own Vega OS instead of Android based Fire OS. Those cannot install Android apps from outside the store, so check the model before you buy.
